An excellent above floor installation. This technique uses plywood sleepers custom fitted around a 1/2″ PEX tubing layout.

The tubing is first installed on top of a reflective surface. Notice that John has used copper tubing straps to fasten the tubing to the subfloor at approximate 2 ft. intervals.

In this application, the tubing is installed before the plywood sleepers. The plywood is then carefully fitted around the tubing. This version of the suspended slab is perfect for any situation where the final floor will be very thin (3/8″ laminate floor, for example) and can’t span the distance of sleepers spaced at wider intervals. Here, the plywood hugs the tubing, provides excellent support for the finished floor, and gives the tubing a custom fitted channel. The floor was raised a mere 3/4″

A precise and beautiful layout. The meticulous craftsmanship is evident in every phase of this installation.

A work of radiant art. After an installation of this quality, the installer will feel a warm glow from more than just the floor. Though hard to imagine, the finished floor will be even more beautiful……especially on a cold winter night.
